3D Laser Scanning

High-definition reality capture with the Trimble X7: millimetre-accurate point clouds of buildings, structures and sites, delivered as CAD drawings, 3D models, BIM, or explored live in your browser.

What is 3D laser scanning?

A 3D laser scanner measures millions of individual points in minutes, building a complete, millimetre-accurate digital record of everything it can see, a point cloud. Instead of measuring a building or site feature by feature, we capture the whole environment in one pass and take the measurements from the data afterwards.

That changes what’s possible. Nothing gets missed on site, awkward or high-level detail is captured safely from the ground, and if a question comes up months later the answer is already in the data, no revisit needed.

Why we scan

  • Complete capture: the whole scene is recorded in one visit, so nothing is missed and nothing needs re-measuring.
  • Millimetre accuracy: survey-grade data suitable for design, fabrication and conservation work.
  • Safe and non-intrusive: facades, roof structures and inaccessible areas measured remotely, with no scaffolding and no contact with the fabric.
  • Fast on site: scanning is quick, keeping disruption to occupiers and operations to a minimum.

What we use it for

Measured building surveys

Floor plans, elevations and sections drawn from scan data, the fastest, most accurate route to as-existing drawings.

Complex topographical detail

Dense capture of intricate site features, structures and street scenes that would be slow to pick up point by point.

Elevations & facades

Complete facade capture including detail at height, ideal for street elevations, planning context and conservation.

Heritage & listed buildings

Irregular walls, exposed timbers and historic fabric recorded exactly as they are, without touching the building.

As-built records

Accurate records of buildings and structures for refurbishment, facilities management and dilapidations.

3D modelling & BIM

Registered point clouds as the basis for 3D models and BIM deliverables, produced in-house or supplied for your own modelling.

Explore your point cloud in the browser

We host completed scans in our secure online point cloud viewer, so you and your design team can walk through the data from any device: measure distances, inspect detail and share access with consultants. No specialist software, no enormous downloads, just a private link and a login.

It’s included as an option with any scanning project, and it’s the easiest way to get the whole team working from the same, accurate picture of the site.

Deliverables

Scan data is processed and registered in-house, then delivered in the form your project needs:

  • Registered point clouds in standard formats (E57, RCP/RCS, LAS) for use in your own CAD or BIM software
  • 2D CAD drawings (DWG) and PDFs drawn directly from the cloud: plans, elevations and sections
  • 3D models and BIM-ready deliverables to an agreed level of detail
  • Secure online viewer access for browser-based measurement and review

Frequently asked questions

The Trimble X7 captures survey-grade data with millimetre-level accuracy, and scans are registered and checked against survey control. Accuracy requirements are agreed at quote stage so the specification matches your project.

Far less time than traditional measurement: most individual scan positions take only minutes, and a typical house is captured in a single visit. We’ll confirm the site time with your quote.

Not necessarily. Drawings and PDFs work in your normal tools, and our online viewer lets you explore and measure the full point cloud in a browser. If you’d rather work with the raw data, we supply industry-standard formats for CAD and BIM platforms.

Yes, scanning is quiet, quick and completely non-contact. We regularly work in occupied homes and operating commercial premises and can plan visits around occupiers.
